About

Welcome

I would like to warmly welcome you to my art website – a container for what I’ve done over 60 years involved in art; making it, looking at it, thinking about it, talking about it – and with others more professional than me. It will be a privilege if you feel drawn to explore the different spaces here, from drawing to painting to writing.

Please do leave me your feedback and responses and comments: art lives for such engagement.

My dear thanks to Adam and his team who have put the website together - and everyone who has been with me in some way along the path that led to here.

Brief Bio

I have painted since I was 10 or 11 years old, took Art A Level at school and then a History of Art Tripos for my final year at Cambridge University. I later attended art school in Paris and Winchester in the 1970’s as time out of medical studies. After graduating in Medicine I pursued a medical career (I’m now Professor of Child Psychiatry at the University of Manchester and Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital) alongside continuing to paint and draw; recently exhibiting more regularly, with five individual or group shows in the last ten years. I have also combined experience in child development, psychology and art into writing and lecturing on the interpersonal psychology of art as an expression of states of mind, as well as on individual artists.

Enough for now - there are more extensive notes on my Art life in the writing section if you’d like to read more… see this page here.
